the mystic worklog
« on: March 22, 2008, 10:31:35 AM »
well, its time for my second mod, i am starting out with a Coolermaster mystique RC 632 black case, the case is beautiful but it has some problems: the HDD locking devices are a nice dark purple  :o the whole inside is a ugly gray, there is no holes in the motherboard tray to wire cables, and the expansion card slot holding device is trash, the case weighs 30 pounds empty, and theres not much cooler inside. i am going to resolve all of these problems in this mod and more.

going to dismantle the whole thing, drill out all of the rivets(eek) and i tested the paint, it works perfectly.

THE MYSTIC, PLEASE VOTE

Some places you might concider cutting on the mobo tray would be
1. right behind the front audio/usb/firewire wires so you can run them behind the mobo tray.. OR move it somewhere else.
2. hole for the 24 pin, PCIe, 4/8 pin and SATA cables.

You should concider replacing the fans with some Yate Loons - quieter.. I just picked up 3 or 4 of them the other day at www.performance-pcs.com

Look up some plastic die. You can find it at most auto parts stores I believe, AAANNDD you should be able to die those ugly purple drive clips black, or whatever color you want them.

To increase airflow, you COULD rebuild the HDD tray..  Less restrictions = better cooling.  If you're not going to have but 1 or 2 HDD's in there, you can ghetto mount them on the bottom of the case and open up that little section f the fron of the case for some quality air flow.

Keep us posted.. txt me if you have any quick questions

One suggestion I have is to cut holes behind the CPU and northbridge.  That way if you want to change out the coolers, you don't have to pull the motherboard.

QFT.
BUT AMD is still in a socket, yes?   So in theory the only thing he should have to cut a hole for is the NB, yes?  Correct me if I'm wrong because I don't follow AMD boards that closely right now.

on some motherboards....like mine...
theres a plate on the underside of the motherboard near the cpu.... that secures the heatsink and fan assembly to the board....

this is why i dont feel like changing my heatsink and fan assembly......takes too long....lol

correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure thats what the bracket down there is for.....

 for refernce i have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ 2.6ghz per core(overclock to 3.2 ghz)

Mark out where you want to cut after you put masking tape over it.  Take time, and use some good cutting blades.

Cutting takes time.  Get a good grinding wheel too.. Smooth out those cuts.

I've spent several HOURS just cutting my box.  I think it's a classy case, but I got an early revision which stunk for cable management.

sand the exterior paint.  If you've gotten all the plastic off the case, bake your case at 300deg. for 1 hour. do it while you're mom's away.. I'm going to have to do it while the wife's away.. lawlz.

I changed my phone number, I'll give it to you later

As per the sand paper, you get 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit at an auto body shop... OR Autozone.  That's where I got mine at.

I thought you'd find the humor in shoving your case in the oven.. but I plan on doing it. :D

Cut out the diamondwhatever fan grill on the front of your case.. It'll open up some airflow in the front. It's not too constrictive, but it's also not needed as you'll have it covered by the front of the case.

With the back, you can cut it out, and a fan grill costs like $2

To make the wires easier to hide, Turn the back fan so that you can feed the wires below the PSU, and sleeve all the wires you can.

I think it's on backwards too.  To hard to tell with the pix all blurry. :P
